Experiencing Mykolaiv

“Experiencing Mykolaiv”
New European Bauhaus Festival (NEB)
Satellite Event
March – April 2024

Grounded in the exp-EIA© 4P (experiential Environmental Impact Assessment 4P ‘Public–Private–People partnership’) methodology, which merges architecture and psychology, this NEB event aims to map and compare perceptions of Mykolaiv (Ukraine) locations to facilitate the sharing of perspectives and ideas on urban regeneration processes.

The event comprises two distinct parts. Firstly, an open call for participation in an online survey aims to promote inclusivity by engaging diverse communities in assessing Mykolaiv’s urban areas. Secondly, after the survey’s closure, a remote presentation of the survey outcomes aims to engage citizens and stakeholders interested in the relationships between the city and its inhabitants. This presentation aims to foster dialogues about the diverse perspectives on Mykolaiv’s relevant places that might undergo a process of urban regeneration.

The exp-EIA©4P method shapes the logic of the proposed event by recognizing that a city’s quality is strictly connected with residents’ well-being from a OneHealth perspective. By scientifically measuring the connection between individuals and their environment, it maps the city’s quality through diverse lenses, promoting inclusivity across communities. By providing a stage for these diverse voices, the approach acknowledges the richness that various perspectives bring to understanding urban spaces, supporting the creation of meaningful and inclusive urban developments from a sustainable perspective.

In this context, the event’s outcomes have the potential to provide valuable insights for urban planning and design. By making the perceptions of diverse communities visible, the event encourages a sustainable approach to city development targeted to the population, fostering a harmonious and sustainable urban environment.
